Our Science Club secondary students reacted magnesium metal with various metal oxides in a thermit reaction, a reaction which gets so hot it’s used to weld railway tracks together. They used a variety of metal oxides to produce different colour flames resembling fireworks. As is commonly known, this Friday is Guy Fawkes night in the UK so this was a fabulous way for our chemistry students to celebrate this event!
