La Chandeleur – Candlemas
Our students acknowledged ‘La Chandeleur – Candlemas’. In French speaking countries ‘Chandeleur‘ is celebrated as the ‘day of pancakes’, a tradition attributed to Pope Gelasius I, who distributed pancakes to pilgrims arriving in Rome. On the occasion of Chandeleur, all the candles in the house had to be lit and pancakes, with their round and golden shape, were said to be reminiscent of the solar disk, evoking the return of spring after the dark and cold winter.
