On the 5th March 2024 several of our upper school students attended a presentation by Exxonmobil Cyprus. The presentation was focused around introducing the students to the countless career paths one could follow if a STEM (Science-technology-Maths-Engineering) curriculum is followed in school and university. The students were given an interesting insight as to how Exxonmobil engineers and geologists search for possible gas reserves at sea and how they then proceed to prepare, drill and trap the gas for extraction. This presentation is a part of the Cyprus Junior Achievement Award and the National Sci-Tech Challenge 2024. At the end of the presentation students were split into small teams and were given 20 minutes to propose alternate methods of making our school more energy efficient. From this presentation 5 students were selected and have moved onto the next round which will be the National Sci-Teach Challenge which will be an all day competition on the 20th March 2024.The competition involves a challenge that will be presented at the beginning of the day; students will be asked to come up with solutions and present them by the end of the day. The team which will come up with the best solution will represent Cyprus at the European Sci-Tech Challenge 2024.
