The Foundation programme helps you develop your English language proficiency and for you to acquire the admissions criteria towards your desired degree programme at university. Guided by experienced academics and tutors you will be taught in small classes enjoying personalised support to prepare you for your studies at university.
Graduates of the University of London International Foundation Programme (IFP) have already secured places at top universities, for example: The London School of Economics & Political Science, Brunel University, King’s College London, University of Nottingham, University of Essex, University of Bristol, Queen Mary University, University of Warwick and at many others.
American Academy is very proud to inform you that Tristan Michaelides (Class 2 Secondary School), a member of the Cyprus National Rowing Team, won two gold medals and one silver medal at the recent Cyprus Rowing Championship 2022. Congratulations Tristan for this amazing achievement and making our school proud!
Our students participated in a European Union funded project entitled Girls Go Circular with the aim of reducing the digital gender gap by developing digital and entrepreneurial competencies, while acquiring knowledge on the circular economy. Research shows that increasing diversity in leadership not only generates revenues but also boosts problem-solving as well as team performance indicators.
According to the European Commission’s Women in Digital Scoreboard 2019, women represent only 34% of STEM graduates (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and 18% of ICT specialists. An increase in the number of women entering the digital skills market would generate an additional annual EUR 16 billion for the European economy. The online learning platform developed in the framework of the project, “Circular Learning Space”, offers students the option of choosing between different learning modules on topics like e-waste, climate change, food, or robotics. These modules are based on a learning-by-doing approach, transferring knowledge and skills through an interactive, challenge-based structure.
In order to thrive in the digital era, young people must be able to competently evaluate and manage information on the internet, interact through different online tools and develop digital content. Girls Go Circular therefore, equips our students with these competencies and raises awareness of online threats and etiquette. We congratulate our students for participating and the attainment of their certification.
Our students in Classes 3, 5 and 6 enjoyed an informative presentation from Ms. Ekaterina Gurchenkova, the International Account Manager for Hanze University in the Netherlands, who offered excellent career development advice, as well as Ms. Anthi Athanassiadou, responsable des certifications et des examens and Ms. Elodie Wynar, Attachée de Coopération pour le Français. Much appreciation to all the aforementioned presenters for their time and expertise.
