Our secondary school attended an informative teacher training course on anti-racism teaching in schools. The training was organised by ‘The Association For Historical Dialogue and Research’, based in the Home for Co-operation in the Ledra Palace area of the buffer zone. Three different games were presented that will be used, with our students, to explore themes of racism, prejudice, sexism and civil courage. These games will undoubtedly be invaluable to our PSHE teaching in school and we are also exploring ways to incorporate them into other subject areas.

Our Upper School students had the unique opportunity to visit UCLan University in Larnaca on 3rd February to take part in an Escape Room Challenge . Each team was tested in three different rooms, where each room had a different subject theme, and each challenge was timed. After the escape room challenge, students were then given a presentation and informed on the university and thereafter had a guided tour of the facilities . The winning team won prize money and scholarships . It was a thoroughly enjoyable excursion!

Today, the American Academy (Private) School of Limassol visited the campus of UCLan Cyprus! The students took a tour and were shown around the University and its modern facilities. Different teams of 5-6 students participated in an entertaining and challenging experience which enhanced their critical thinking by solving puzzles and finding clues. 💯👏Congratulations to the winners of the Business Escape Challenge:

Our students acknowledged ‘La Chandeleur — Candlemas’. In French speaking countries ‘Chandeleur‘ is celebrated as the ‘day of pancakes’, a tradition attributed to Pope Gelasius I, who distributed pancakes to pilgrims arriving in Rome. On the occasion of Chandeleur, all the candles in the house had to be lit and pancakes, with their round and golden shape, were said to be reminiscent of the solar disk, evoking the return of spring after the dark and cold winter.

Class 6 students engaged in a practical on microscopy with scope to learn how to prepare specimens, identify them and then draw structures in their lab books as well as how to use a graticule micrometer scale to find the actual size of cells. They then viewed their own cheek cells, followed by onion cells, and identified the tissues of the vascular bundle of plant stems. Our science lessons…always a hands-on approach!

One in three bee, butterfly and hoverfly species are disappearing in the EU today.

Our biodiversity and food security depend upon them.
The revised EU Pollinators Initiative sets objectives for 2030 to reverse pollinator decline, which will be achieved through actions including:

🐝 Better conservation of species and habitats,
🦋 Restoring habitats in agricultural landscapes,
🌾 Mitigating the impact of pesticide use on pollinators,
🌳 Enhancing pollinator habitats in urban areas.

The initiative will also focus on improving knowledge of pollinator decline and mobilising society and promoting strategic planning and cooperation.
Check out our #EUDataCrunch highlighting the importance of these great little living creatures. ↓
