I am very pleased to announce that after an interview and recruitment process, I have been chosen and approved for a summer internship at Deloitte for their She.Can.Internship programme. The programme will take place over the course of three weeks in July where I will work alongside the Deloitte professionals and gain valuable experience in STEM. Furthermore, this internship is a huge honour as only a limited number of girls islandwide, from both private and public schools, were accepted. Fortunately, I met their criteria and had the qualifications. Being an intern at such a prestigious company is a huge responsibility however, I am enthusiastic about this opportunity and I will make sure to proudly represent the American Academy as well as females in such a challenging, male dominated industry. I believe this programme will enhance my knowledge and allow me to become a more well-rounded student in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Meet Alexandra Prokhorova, one of our brilliant students who has known her passion since a young age – Genetics!  We’re thrilled to share that Alexandra recently had the opportunity to interview an absolute trailblazer in the field, Dr. Christos Shammas!
Dr. Shammas, an esteemed graduate of the American Academy back in 1998, has carved an inspiring path for himself. After completing his military service, he pursued his academic journey relentlessly, earning his Bachelor’s in Chemistry from UMIST University in Manchester and eventually achieving his PHD from the University of Manchester.
Today, Dr. Shammas stands as a shining example of success, serving as the Director of a Clinical Laboratory and heading the Genetics department in a Pharmaceutical company!
We’re immensely grateful to both Alexandra and Dr. Shammas for this enlightening interview, shedding light on the exciting world of Genetics. Let’s continue to inspire and learn from each other!
